Brief Profile of Galkayo Medical Foundation (GMF)
Introduction
Galkayo Medical Foundation is a non-profit
oriented and non-governmental humanitarian medical organization based in north
Galkayo, Puntland state of Somalia, which fully licensed it. The GMF has been
operating and working in the health sector since the last seven years and the
health activities in which the GMF continuously operates consists of Day-care
clinic and fully-equipped hospital. The GMF has partnership collaboration with
the cooperation for medical services and development (COMSED) and other
international NGO’s based in Italy which support GMF with finance, medical
expertise’s and provide supply for both medical and non-medical materials.
The hospital and Day-care clinic are located
within a compound of 6000msq of land owned by the GMF and have 23 medical and
non-medical personnel and recruits a number of technical contractual staff as
required
GMF Daily medical
activities
The GMF has been working as referral hospital for
both in-patients and out patient from many different distant areas, i.e. all
regions of Somalia, Somaliland, Ethiopia and Djibouti
It also successfully provides healthcare for those
who approach GMF for their daily health needs. The medical activities that GMF
fulfils on daily basis include:

c} A Gynecological and obstetric treatment center
d} post –FGM {female Genital Mutilation}
treatment, de infibulations and counseling centre .

3 GMF
expansion plans
Having assessed and considered the huge medical
demand both in urban and the rural areas including the suburbs and remote
residences, the GMF expansion plans include
◦ to increase and up-grade the GMF medical facilities.
◦ to provide some rural health support through mobile services for diagnostic
and treatment
◦ Expansion of mother and child care services
◦ Training centre for paramedical training
◦ Establishing referral centre for surgical expertise for obstetric fistula
◦ Obstetric emergency service, with presence of equipped and capable medical and
Paramedical staff carrying out any kind of obstetric emergency care 24 hours a

implementing project activities, monitoring and Controlling,
evaluating and preparing periodical and final reports of the
Project .
